What’s behind the City of Sydney’s ’embarrassing’ vaccine rates

With the inner city lagging behind in vaccines, the community is being urged to take a cautious approach to the reopening.

Jim Wilson described the City of Sydney’s double-dose vaccination rate of 67.7 per cent as “nothing short of an embarrassment”, accusing Lord Mayor Clover Moore of “going missing” amid the vaccine push.

Independent councillor Dr Kerryn Phelps told Jim there are less vaccinated and critically vulnerable communities in Sydney who are difficult to access, and warned the language around “freedom day” could endanger them.

“Every single individual has a responsibility here, and we can all do an active community service by wearing a mask, checking in with QR codes, [and] having a test.

“The pandemic is not over.”
