‘What was she thinking?’: Lisa Wilkinson’s Logies speech delays trial
Ray Hadley has criticised TV personality Lisa Wilkinson for failing to heed warnings ahead of her Logies speech.
Her speech sparked a delay in the trial of the man accused of sexually assaulting former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins in 2019.
ACT Chief Justice Lucy McCallum vacated the trial dates of Bruce Lehrmann at the request of his lawyers, after publicity around the speech.
Mr Lehrmann has pleaded not guilty.
The trial was due to start next week.
It has been reported The Project presenter was warned by the Director of Public Prosecutions in the days leading up to the awards that she could set back the trial, if she read out the speech.
Ray said it should never have happened.
“I have to say, what was she thinking when she did what she did on Sunday night and again in a radio interview the next day?
“In my opinion, everyone in the media, me included, need to err on the side of caution when very serious matters are being determined by a court are yet to be determined by a court.”
