There’s a push from within Coalition ranks for a parliamentary inquiry into Australia’s expanding population.

The latest Newspoll reveals 72 per cent of respondents support a cut to migration over the past year.

But Liberal Senator Dean Smith believes more needs to be done to address the issue in future.

Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott tells Ray Hadley the annual migration cap must be reduced.

“We’ve got to bring it down pretty sharply Ray if we are going to start getting the downward pressure off wages, if we’re going to take the upward pressure off housing prices, if we’re going to unclog our infrastructure.”
