NRL finals referee Gerard Sutton has addressed a mistake in the Panthers vs Storm decider which saw Nathan Cleary attempt a conversion metres infield from his teammate’s try.

The head whistleblower admitted to Mark Levy and Paul Gallen the placement of the mark was a major error.

“Collectively we’ve got to be a bit better than that, whether it means we’ve got to take a tape measure or protractors, set square, whatever out there this weekend.

“So many things in a game are complex, but that’s a really basic simple thing.”
