The rumoured payout sparked intense speculation among rugby league fans. Many question the logic of letting a superstar walk away early while still paying his future salary. Mielekamp dug his heels in during the interview and offered no definitive answers on the financial fallout.

“We are confident that this was the right move for our club,” Mielekamp told the Continuous Call Team.

He insisted the club must clear paths for local junior talent.
