Ben Fordham believes it’s time “politicians swallow their pride” on coal.

Monday’s heat wave led to a 7-year record in electricity usage and NSW used more than 13,000 megawatts of power in a single day which was the highest output since 2016.

“Here’s the critical point, in the last 48 hours across the two hot days in a row, 13% of our energy came from solar, 12% from wind, 5% from hydro, 2% from gas and top of the list, powering 68% of NSW’s energy needs… Black coal,” Ben said.

“NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean won’t like hearing that, so in case he just muted his radio, I’ll say it again. In the last 48 hours, 68% of the power in NSW has come from coal, over the last year it’s almost 73%!”
