The former minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs during the Howard Government has come out swinging in the wake of the alleged murder of a five-year-old girl in the Northern Territory.

Mal Brough has told Michael McLaren he’s sick of the lies regarding the “community having the answer” when he’s seen community-led action in practice.

“We allow this degradation, this disrespect to flourish, and then we wonder why atrocities occur,” he said.

Mr Brough says he won’t turn a blind eye to what’s happening in the town camps.

“We turned a blind eye to what we would never do in any other part of Australian society … it is a disgrace to our nation, and the people that are listening need to say enough’s enough,” he added.
