The government is pushing Labor to support a new bill that would make it easier to deport migrants who are convicted of violent crimes.

The legislation would make it easier for the government to cancel the visas of migrants who commit a violent offence which carries a maximum sentence of two years or more, such as sexual assault and murder.

Immigration Minister David Coleman tells Ben Fordham he has a message for migrants who commit violent crimes in our country.

“Frankly, we don’t want you in Australia.

“You have abused the welcome of Australia, you’re a guest of Australia and you’ve disrespected Australia. You shouldn’t be here.”
