‘We don’t exist’: Flood-affected Lismore neglected despite topping disaster list
The north coast community of Lismore is calling for government support to help prevent another major disaster.
Lismore is the most flood-affected community in Australia with 138 floods in 152 years.
Locals have been begging for emergency support but on Monday only six SES boats were in town.
“We’ve just sent $100 million dollars to help Ukraine, but Lismore can’t get a cracker,” Ben said.
Lismore local Richard Treven told Ben “we’re a case study of how the system, quite simply, doesn’t work”.
“We’re too big to fail but we’re too small to be of any interest to anybody.”
