WATCH | Protester arrested after climbing onto Marrickville train

Mark Levy

A woman has been arrested following an unauthorised protest in Marrickville this morning.

About 10.45 am today emergency services were called to the freight rail line near the intersection of Meeks and Victoria roads.

Reports stated that a group had gathered in front of a freight train. It was alleged a woman had climbed onto the train.

She was arrested about 10 minutes later by officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command, assisted by Police Rescue.

Southern Short Haul Railroad owner Jason Ferguson told Mark Levy the actions of the protesters were extremely dangerous.

“These protesters ran out in front of our train.

“I’ve spoken to the driver, he said he only just pulled up in time before running them over.

Mr Ferguson said the trains were, “ironically conveying grain to go to third-world countries for food”.
