A man has been winched from a narrow ledge after he fell over the edge of North Head, near Manly.

The Westpac Lifesaver chopper responded to Triple Zero reports suggesting a person was in the water yelling for help.

The rescue helicopter winched the man to safety, who was sitting on the edge of a cliff below Fairfax Walk.

NSW Ambulance have treated him for lacerations and bruising.
