Warren Mundine: Shorten’s claims a ‘load of garbage’

Indigenous leader Warren Mundine has hit back at Opposition Leader Bill Shorten after he claimed too many Aboriginal children are being removed from their families.

Over the weekend Mr Shorten visited Barunga, a Northern Territory community east of Katherine, where he claimed too many Aboriginal children are being displaced.

“As if Bill Shorten has any idea what’s really going on in Aboriginal communities,” says Chris Smith.

Mr Mundine has labelled the Labor leader’s claims a “load of garbage”.

He tells Chris first Bill Shorten must “acknowledge the pain and suffering that is happening”.

“You can’t resolve something until you actually acknowledge you got a problem.”

Mr Shorten also hit out at “know-it-all whitefellas” and their “paternalistic” approach to tackling indigenous child protection as he promised to hold a summit within the first 100 days of a Labor government to overcome the issue.

“He just sounded like a paternalistic white guy!”
