Stan Zemanek’s wife and Indigenous leader Warren Mundine have come to the defence of neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo.

Charlie Teo has been prevented from performing certain operations until he obtains written approval from a fellow neurosurgeon.

Marcella Zemanek says Dr Teo extended her husband’s life by 15 months.

She told Ben Fordham she’s worked alongside the neurosurgeon who “gives people hope”.

“It’s not the critic who counts, it’s the man who actually does the work.

“To me, Charlie will always be a hero.”

Mr Mundine shared with Ben the story of how Dr Teo saved his nephew’s life.

“If Charlie can’t do these operations, then my nephew would have been condemned to death!”
