US Police and Greyhounds Australasia join forces to provide PTSD pets

The United States Police and the Australian Greyhound Industry have formed an allied partnership in which Australia will supply greyhounds to serve as companion animals in the US, specifically as PTSD dogs and pets.

The Chairman of Greyhounds Australasia, Rob Vellar, travelled to the USA and, together with Greyhound Racing NSW, signed a deal called the Pacific Pet Partnership overnight.

Mr Vellar spoke exclusively with Ray Hadley about the new deal, stating, “If we can get the dogs into a loving family, particularly for those frontline workers, and it saves someone’s life… That’s a job well done.”

According to Mr Vellar, the demand for retired greyhounds may “outstrip supply” as they are now sought after internationally while remaining popular in Australia.

“We’ve sent 100 to non-police this year, so there’s a very high demand for our greyhounds,” he said.
