Unlock Sydney: Our city could see 24-hour shopping
Would you like to be able to hit the shops at any time of the day… or night?
The City of Sydney have bold plans to unlock Sydney’s streets and allow businesses to trade 24-hours a day.
They’re also pushing for some bars and restaurants to stay open until 5am.
Mayor Clover Moore says it’ll return Sydney to a “golden age” when it was bustling.
City of Sydney Councillor Jess Scully tells Ben Fordham our work hours aren’t the same anymore and shoppers should have more options.
“Our lives have become more complicated and yet our timetable on main streets is often really restrictve,” she says.
“What we want to do is unlock Sydney and throw this open to business really.
“If businesses can see a market there, why shouldn’t they be able to trade later?”
The Council isn’t making the call yet though, but the issue will be open to public consultation next month.
