A study has found universities are churning out graduates who aren’t prepared for the workforce.

20% of businesses participating in the study said new graduates failed to meet their minimum standards.

Raife Watson, CEO of Adzuna Australia, tells Michael McLaren universities are offering more degrees to make money. 

“Universities are offering courses they think will be popular and they make money out of it.

“They will push a course that can make them money and they don’t necessarily think of what the consequences are for the student.”

Raife also says the decrease in required entry scores has added to an over-supply of graduates.

“Scores have dropped and job numbers haven’t increased.

There are too many graduates and fewer jobs.”
