Union raises alarm on under-resourced health system amid COVID spike

The Health Services Union is warning NSW was not prepared for a ‘let it rip’ COVID policy.

With thousands of COVID-19 cases recorded a day, the identification of close contacts threatens to wipe out workforces across the state.

“The next four weeks will really tell the story of how we go forward,” Health Services Union Secretary Gerard Hayes told John Stanley.

“I think we’ve really got to look at how we are dealing with this at the moment and the workforce we have to deal with it.

“Health has been under-resourced for over 20 years and so all the pandemic has shown us is where all the gaps are and now we’re experiencing that.”
