Outraged university students have started a petition against a move to lower the bar for female students looking to enter certain degrees.

The University of Technology Sydney is offering female school leavers who want to study engineering, IT or construction an extra 10 points to their ATAR, giving them a boost over their male counterparts.

The university says it will help boost the number of women studying typically male-dominated courses.

But Rita Panahi has called the move “genuinely offensive”.

“Being female is not a disability. This is so patronising.

“Women who get there on merit absolutely abhor this sort of stuff, they hate it more than anybody.”
