Aquarius Backpackers is in lockdown after a positive COVID case was confirmed.

There are now concerns for businesses in Byron ahead of schoolies and the busy summer period.

Michelle Visser, Manager of Bay Motel Byron Bay, told Jim Wilson everyone is nervous.

“This morning I went out to for my normal run … there were all these police vehicles outside of Aquarius, they have taped it off, they have taped the whole property off, no one is allowed in out,” she said.

“The feeling is quite upbeat but with sort of like a bit of nervous tension, hoping they can contain it there and then they are done with it, after seven days.

“With all of the schoolies, they are all here and the first of the schoolies arrive this weekend.”
