Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore sought advice from two ABC experts to defend the cancellation of family fireworks, the Sydney Morning Herald has revealed.

ABC resident doctor Norman Swan and ABC regular, epidemiologist Professor Raina MacIntyre, advised the City of Sydney council “too many people around the Harbour could be risky in terms of pandemic spread”.

Deborah Knight tore into the Lord Mayor’s decision to not only cancel the 9pm fireworks, but to do so before consulting an ABC reporter and “the professor who’d prefer we shut everything down no matter the cost”.

“Unbelievable.

“We’ve got to live in the real world, and it’s not something that either Norman Swan or Raina MacIntyre do at all.

“If you are going to pull the pin, at least talk to the experts instead of trumped-up doctors.”
