A man is behind bars after allegedly stabbing two men who tried to stop him from stealing a car in Sydney’s eastern suburbs last night.

Just before 9pm on Thursday, the 30-year-old allegedly broke into a vehicle parked outside a home on Hannan Street at Maroubra.

The 28-year-old owner and a 67-year-old man, confronted the thief and tried to detain him within the car.

The 30-year-old forced his way out of the vehicle and got into an altercation with the two men, allegedly pulling out a knife and slashing at them.

The 67-year-old man suffered wound to his face, and the 28-year-old man suffered a wound to his bicep.

The two men were then able to restrain the man and police were called.

The alleged thief was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment to a head injury before being transferred to Maroubra Police Station where he is currently being charged with several offences.

The two men were taken Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment to their injuries with the older man requiring surgery.
