Two-hour Sydney to Melbourne train could be a reality

Article image for Two-hour Sydney to Melbourne train could be a reality

A planned rail upgrade could cut hours off train journeys between major cities.

Proposed upgrades could see the trip from Sydney to Melbourne reduced to just under two hours.

Nick Cleary, CEO Consolidated Land and Rail Australia, tells Ben Fordham faster rail networks “can’t be dismissed.”

“It’s not about making trips quicker… what we need to do is look at what that enables.

“It enables new residential communities… that will enable people to have an enhanced lifestyle.”

Mr Cleary says the upgrades, which involve fixing tracks and removing level crossings, are a “huge conversation changer”.
