Two people have been killed in a fiery crash on the M1 Princes Motorway at West Wollongong.

The crash between two trucks and three cars resulted in one truck catching fire at the Mt Keira Road overpass.

A major emergency operation is underway and all southbound lanes remain closed.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Matt Stirling tells Ben Fordham nine people were assessed and none were taken to hospital.

“People are suffering mainly from shock and being exposed to such a horrific scene.”

NSW Transport Coordinator General Marg Prendergast tells Ben people should delay their travel.

“We’re expecting that it’s going to take a really long time to recover and to get the road back.

“At the moment delays northbound and southbound are over an hour with 5km queues in each direction.”
