Trust in government has never been so low, is Australia a divided nation?

Article image for Trust in government has never been so low, is Australia a divided nation?

Considering what’s gone on in Canberra recently, is it a surprise that Australians are losing faith in the political system?

“It’s a system that’s stacked against ordinary, hardworking Australians,” Chris Smith says.

As a nation, we’re divided.

Institute of Public Affairs research fellow Matthew Lesh is looking closely at the Australian divide in his latest book, Democracy In A Divided Australia.

He tells Chris Smith trust in politicians has never been so low.

“We’re at this real record-level of frustration.”

Matthew says only two per cent of the population have a solid trust in politicians.

“I put this down to what I call a new divide that has emerged between inners and outers.”
