Treasurer insists latest scandal won’t distract the government

Article image for Treasurer insists latest scandal won’t distract the government

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the scandal surrounding Nationals MP Andrew Broad won’t distract the government from delivering a strong economy.

Just hours after the Coalition released its positive Mid Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO), the news was overshadowed.

The then-assistant minister Andrew Broad reportedly met up with a younger woman, using a ‘Sugar Baby’ website, while on a taxpayer-funded trip to Hong Kong.

The married MP has since quite the frontbench and there’sĀ also pressure on Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack who has known about the matter for weeks.

The revelations stole headlines away from MYEFO but Treasurer Frydenberg tells Chris Smith it won’t distract the government.

“Clearly Andrew’s conduct was unacceptable and he’s done the right thing to resign he’s post.

“But the focus for me and the Prime Minister and our government is on delivering a stronger economy.”
