Tough penalties for vegan activists before parliament

Tough penalties for vegan activists who illegally enter farms will be introduced to parliament today.

The bill is in response to a slew of incidents earlier this year, where vegan protestors stormed onto farms, chaining themselves to equipment and stealing animals.

Activists who trespass on NSW farms would face fines of up to $22,000 or three years in jail.

NSW Agricultural Minister Adam Marshall tells Karl Stefanovic the laws are necessary.

“I support the right of people to protest but people who are enjoying their right to protest do not have the right to go onto someone else’s property, to invade that farm and disrupt their farming operation.

“We’re just not going to put up with it anymore.”
