‘Total cop-out’: Jim Wilson scolds decision to allow unvaccinated into aged care homes

Clinton Maynard

Jim Wilson has admonished the NSW Government’s decision to allow unvaccinated people into aged care homes.

This comes as the state braces itself for a further increase in covid case numbers.

Jim told Drive listeners about his concerns for his father-in-law who is currently in a home.

“It doesn’t sit well me at all knowing come Monday there could be a stream of visitors streaming into his facility unvaccinated,” he said.

Brian Swanepoel from Adventist Aged Care in Wahroonga joined Jim to talk about how the decision will affect his facility.

“I don’t think it was properly thought through … the timing of it is atrocious,” he said.

Despite the new rules, homes will have the ability to choose to require visitors to be vaccinated.

Mr Swanepoel said, “we don’t want to impose any restrictions unnecessarily, but it is our duty of care to look after residents and keep them as safe as possible.”
