A Sydneysider has been scammed $500 by a dodgy trick on Facebook.

Karina Musgrove fell victim to a Facebook Marketplace scam when trying to purchase a mower and trailer.

The seller ‘Marlovia Bruce’ asked for the money to be transferred first and promised to send it out afterward.

The scammers have an official Commonwealth account and trick buyers into purchasing the goods without sending a single cent.

Karina told Jim Wilson this specific scam is happening across all different country towns.

2GB technology expert Charlie Brown said it’s a reminder for individuals to be vigilant online.

“These scams quite often are sophisticated.”
