Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is describing the late Cardinal George Pell as ‘a great son of the Catholic church’.

Cardinal Pell has died in Rome after complications from surgery.

Mr Abbott, a staunch Pell supporter, says the Cardinal was a committed defender of Catholic orthodoxy, and an advocate for the virtues of Western Civilisation.
