Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has called on the federal government to hold on to some defence sites, including the historic Victoria Barracks.

Speaking to Michael McLaren on 2GB Afternoons he says it’s vital that the Victoria Barracks are preserved.

“There may well be some land that could be appropriately be repurposed with this, but you don’t want the next couple of years of military decision-making to be preoccupied with this,” he said.

“We must preserve the best of our heritage. and places like Victoria Barracks are that,” he said.
