Tim Fischer: ‘Long live the king’

Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the National Party Barnaby Joyce has resigned and will revert to the backbench.

This comes after weeks of what former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer describes as “relentless media”.

He tells Chris Kenny it’s a completely different “ball game” now.

“It’s a different ball game since I was the federal leader.

“24/7 relentless media, the Twitter artery.

“Social media is a massive intrusion on every aspect of politics and the job as political leader, party leader… is a much more difficult job.”

He says there will be white smoke on Monday as Joyce resigns.

“There will be white smoke, the will be a new leader, and the king is dead.”
