Three people have died in a horrific crash on the New South Wales Mid North Coast in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to Gleniffer Road at Bellingen, south-west of Coffs Harbour, just before 2.30am.

Crews found a small SUV which had left the road and slammed into a tree.

All three people in the vehicle died at the scene.

Police and crash investigators established a crime scene and are still working to identify the victims.

A report is being prepared for the information of the Coroner.
