Ben Fordham has hit out at the federal government’s plans to scrap the cashless welfare card.

The card prevents up to 80 per cent of welfare money from being used on alcohol and gambling.

A major study into the card by the University of Adelaide found the towns that used it witnessed a 23 per cent decline in gambling.

The card was brought in because kids in disadvantaged areas were going without.

“This is going to hurt the people, not help them,” Ben said.

“Kids will go hungry because Anthony Albanese is too soft.”

Senator Jacqui Lambie told Ben she wants to know what measures will replace the card.

“Because nothing is going to change. It has reduced the violence, the drinking and the drugs.”
