‘This is daylight robbery’: Uber’s eyewatering price rise amid train shutdown

Mark Levy

Commuters are reporting Uber has jacked up prices of trips in Sydney amid the train network shutdown.

A person looking to travel from Gymea into the CBD this morning told Ray Hadley they were quoted $261.42 for a standard fare that would normally cost $75.

Ray slammed the company for charging surge prices while commuters are trying to get to work.

“Taxis are heavily regulated so if it costs you $70 for your normal fare, … the cab company can’t all of a sudden say ‘there’s no trains, it’ll cost you $175 to go from the Sutherland Shire to the City’.

“Because Uber is totally unregulated, they may as well provide a mask for the driver.

“I’m not talking about a COVID mask, I’m talking about a Ned Kelly mask because this is daylight robbery.”
