Sometimes it feels like the world’s full of bad news.

Well, today we were reminded that Aussies are a great bunch of people.

Listener Joan called in to tell Chris Smith about a good Samaritan whose good deed stuck in her mind.

An elderly lady, Joan has a walker she uses to get up the stairs.

Last week, she was preparing to navigate a set of stairs when she noticed a garbage man running up her street.

“He got out of his truck and started running down my long driveway,” she says.

“I said, ‘what’s wrong?’ He said, ‘nothing’s wrong madam, I’ve come to help you up the steps’.

“I couldn’t get over it.”

But that wasn’t Joan’s only run in with a good Samaritan.

A few years ago, while making a quick trip to Franklins, she got a bit carried away and bought more than she could afford.

“By the time I got to the turnstile, I was a dollar short.

“A woman behind me says, ‘madam it’s Christmas time. I would be delighted to pay it for you’.”
