‘They’re just not right’: New ferries forced out of service AGAIN

Manly’s new Emerald Class ferries have been forced out of service yet again by a swell of just two metres on Sunday.

The new vessels are designed to withstand waves up to 4.5m, but have not been tested under those conditions.

Maritime Union deputy secretary Paul Garrett told Ben Fordham the Emerald Class ferries are “just not right” for Sydney Heads, and the union will continue to oppose their use on the route.

“It’s like watching a wine cork afloat in a washing machine – it doesn’t work.

“There’d be more respect for the government if they come out today, … owned their mistake, and … get the other two [Freshwater ferries] back on service.”

After repeated “stuff-ups” of ferry, light rail and heavy rail investments, Mr Garrett declared “enough’s enough”.

“Three strikes, you should be out.”
