‘There’s always a free option’: Metro Roads Minister defends flood tolls

2GB Afternoons

NSW Metro Roads Minister Natalie Ward has told Deborah Knight the state government will look into placing a halt on-road tolls for those in flood-affected areas.

However, the Minister stated that “there is always a free option” that drivers can use if they do not want to pay for tolls.

“Wherever possible if they want to use that free option that’s there.”

Deborah Knight wasn’t impressed with the response by the Minister as Brisbane has already scrapped road tolls to alleviate the pressure people are facing.

Deborah Knight: So your just saying to people don’t use the toll road?

Natalie Ward: The free option is always there…

Deborah Knight: But isn’t the whole idea of it to make it easier to travel?

Natalie Ward: There’s always a balance between cost of living and building big infrastructure
