Former Managing Director at Kimberly-Clark Australia explains the environment may no longer be economical for manufacturers.

Huggies nappies will no longer be manufactured in Australia after the American manufacturer Kimberley-Clark announced the closure of its Sydney factory.

220 employees at the Ingleburn factory were told the nappies would instead be made in Asia.

The factory is expected to close in July but the CFMEU is calling on the government to intervene.

Former Managing Director at Kimberly-Clark Australia Glenn Watts tells Ross Greenwood the costs of manufacturing in Australia is going up.

“It’s not just about salaries, it’s the environment.

“There is a bit of a snowball effect.”
