The surprise finding from a five year NAPLAN study

Clinton Maynard

A new report which looked at the data from NAPLAN results over five years found regional schools routinely perform better than their city counterparts.

The Daily Telegraph analysis also found that of the top 100 primary schools across NSW, 80 of them are public schools.

A majority of those most improved schools are in regional areas.

NSW Shadow Education Minister Prue Car said the government should be taking lessons from the better-performed schools.

“I’m not entirely convinced that the government is looking at what’s happening in these good schools and applying it across the board,” she said on 2GB Drive.

“Because if some are doing so much better than others doesn’t that also indicate that there’s a problem?”
