‘The red centre’ – Did One Nation’s success help Labor?
One Nation’s extraordinary result has seen the Liberals collapse in South Australia following the state election on Saturday but it’s left Michael McLaren to question if their success benefited Labor under Peter Malinauskas.
He’s pointed out while the election has seen Labor gain the majority of the seats, their primary vote fell.
“Labor’s primary vote has been smashed down nearly 20 per cent, with one nation up 27.4 per cent. I mean, this is the working class sending modern Labor a very strong message,” he said.
He’s also noted polling ahead of the election turned out to be accurate, which could see promising results for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation ahead of upcoming by-elections and state elections.
“Judging by the swings from regional South Australia, you’d have to assume Farrer could be next to fall. And then, well, Victoria. Get ready. The orange wave is on its way,” he added.
