Sydneysider Ken Wilson has found a novel way to improve public transport in his area.

The Northern beaches resident started a Go Fund Me campaign after his local bus route 272 got cancelled with no replacement in sight.

He crowdfunded money to run a private bus.

“It’s not just us, it’s everybody,” he said.

The pirate bus service had its first trip Wednesday morning, with people dressed up as pirates.
