The ‘opportunity’ for Australia to improve its Defence Force

Chris O'Keefe

The federal opposition have called for the Albanese government to consider radical policy changes which would allow non-Australian citizens to serve in the Australian Defence Force.

With immigration numbers set to increase, the federal government want to add an extra 18,500 uniformed personnel by 2040, which is a 30 per cent increase on current levels.

Retired Commando Officer, Heston Russell, claims “these are opportunities that we could indeed look at, if there done in a correct and procedural way.”
