The moment MasterChef brought judge Gary Mehigan to tears

In 2009, Channel 10 began promoting a radical new TV show that had never been attempted before in Australia, Masterchef.

Since then, the show’s hit more than just Australian screens. It’s impacted the culture of Australian food and evolved the way ordinary Aussies eat and cook.

Next week will be entirely dedicated to culinary goddess, Nigella Lawson.

MasterChef judge Gary Mehigan joins Chris Smith in the studio to chat about the evolution of the show.

He says “I was in tears” after Season One winner Julie Goodwin took the top spot.

“We were newbies to the TV business really.

“I didn’t realise that I would become, and actually an essential part of the show and essential part of our interaction, so emotionally connected with the contestants.”

Ahead of the Royal nuptials on Saturday, Gary shares MasterChef’s connection to the royals.
