The ‘little mistakes’ Qantas pilots are making as they return to the skies
The two-year disruption to flying has let some pilots’ flying skills go rusty.
Qantas is finding pilots are making mistakes as simple as commencing take-off with the park brake on and misidentifying altitude as airspeed.
Air safety expert Mick Quinn told Joe Hildebrand it’s important any forgotten skills are picked up as soon as possible.
“Any error of any type on the surface may not pose a particular risk but when that compounds with many other different things, … these are when these sorts of things become critical.
“The challenge at the moment is to ensure those small little mistakes … are picked up early in the piece and don’t progress into something more sinister.”
