Newcastle bus driver Sanjay endured some horrific racial abuse from an aggressive customer while trying to do his job, but was comforted with some kind words from 11-year-old Brock!

Sanjay, Brock and Brock’s mother Melissa spoke to Chris O’Keefe on how the encounter went down and the impact the kind words had on the bus driver.

“I felt like he applied some first-aid to my hurt,” Sanjay said.

“He’s always been a very caring and sensitive boy and always putting others feelings before his own,” Brock’s mother Melissa said.

Sanjay reported the incident to his managers and was able to attend Brock’s school to thank him in person and give him some Easter eggs.

A review of the Bus Incident Database shows from 1 April 2022 to 30 March 2023 there were 512 incidents of reported abuse against drivers across the NSW bus network.
