The face of the energy crisis: Elderly woman ‘terrified’ of being left in the cold

Ben Fordham

Sydneysiders have been left in the dark amid warnings of more blackouts to come.

There have been local network outages for residents in Beacon Hill, Frenchs Forest, Narraweena, Cromer and Dee Why.

It follows a warning from the Australian Energy Market Operator that power outages could occur in the coming days if demand outstrips what is being generated.

The regulator used its powers to direct electricity generators to avoid shortfalls, averting mass blackouts.

93-year-old Beryl lost power to her Narraweena home last night.

“I’m terrified of the thought of not having any heat,” she told Ben Fordham.

“I just don’t know what I would do because I feel the cold terribly.”
