‘The door to the NDIS is an autism diagnosis’: Dr Tanveer Ahmed
A psychiatrist has called out the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Dr Tanveer Ahmed believes there are fundamental issues around the treatment of autism.
There are 266,000 NDIS participants under the age of 18 and according to the NDIS and more than half have autism.
Across the country – 1 out of every 10 boys aged 5 to 7 are on the NDIS, and doctors are now offering $5,000 to guarantee parents an official autism diagnosis.
“It’s become a honey pot,” Ben said.
Mr Ahmed told Ben, “the door to the NDIS is an autism diagnosis”.
