The bigger picture behind Seven reporter’s ‘major stuff-up’ in Adele interview

Channel Seven reporter Matt Doran has been humiliated after it emerged his admission led to an exclusive interview with Adele being pulled.

The pop star was greatly offended when Mr Doran admitted he hadn’t listened to her new album during an interview in London, demanding the interview be pulled and resulting in the network scrambling to fill airtime.

2GB entertainment editor and Seven contributor Peter Ford told Ben Fordham the reporter’s “major stuff-up” is out of character.

Apparently, Mr Doran hadn’t realised he had received a hyperlink in his email allowing him to listen to the album prior to its public release.

“This is [a] really stupid mistake … there’s always a backstory, the bottom line is it shouldn’t have happened.

“It was really shoddy on his part.”

However, Peter said there’s a “bigger picture”, questioning the network’s decision to allow Sony veto rights to the interview, which was filmed by a Seven crew, in the first place.

“I don’t understand why all commercial media in this country are entering into these agreements to sign their rights away.

“We really are selling our souls to the devil in this country.”
