The ‘astonishing’ magic of grandparenthood, as told by legendary Aussie author

Prolific Australian writer Thomas Keneally has published his musings on all things from economic theory to grandparenthood in new memoir A Bloody Good Rant.

Mr Keneally, the famed author of Schindler’s Ark, told Deborah Knight grandparents bring children the benefit of a different voice, and “a bit of rebellion”.

“Just when you’re losing all your physical capacities, when it comes to swimming, climbing and so on, these kids come along and ask you to do it all again with them.

“I think a lot of grandparents are astonished by the infatuation that comes on them when their grandchildren are born.

“You think, ‘this kid is special’.”
