Teens leave 20km trail of destruction during police pursuit
A pair of teenagers have been arrested after stealing a car and leading police on a dangerous pursuit across Sydney.
The teens allegedly stole a Mitsubishi Lancer from a property in Sydney’s south-west yesterday afternoon.
Later that night, police spotted the vehicle at Maroubra, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, launching a pursuit.
During the chase, the 18-year-old driver allegedly rammed his way through stationary cars and then hit a concrete barrier near the airport tunnel, deflating the front tyre.
They continued to evade police, driving all the way to Taren Point, in Sydney’s south, before eventually losing control of the vehicle and slamming into a traffic light.
The driver and his 17-year-old female passenger fled on foot, but were chased down and arrested.
Paramedics took the pair to Sutherland Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released back into police custody.
The passenger has since been released, while the unlicensed driver is facing a slew of charges.
He’s been granted bail and will face court next month.
